ALPINE COUNTY
Alpine County Alpine County is the smallest county, by population, in the U.S. state of California. Named for its location high in the Sierra Nevada mountains. As of 2007, it had a population of 1,145, all rural. There are no incorporated cities in the county. The county seat is Markleeville. Over the past 7 years the population of Alpine County has decreased, from 1208 in 2000, to the current figure of 1145. Alpine County is located in the Sierra Nevada, between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
